<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Tai Chi Chuan is often described as meditation in motion. With this feature,
the simultaneity of physical action and the achievement of a meditative state
of awareness, Tai Chi Chuan has become famous. This fusion of inner
stillness and outer movement leads to a special feeling. One is in the here
and now, highly concentrated. All the worries of everyday life are forgotten
and it simply feels good. The own body, breathing and the change of
movements are perceived without being focused on it. Mihaly
Csikszentmihalyi saw this kind of inner experience also in artists at their
work. He named this state flow experience and investigated it in further
studies.
First results of his study showed that many artists even without the prospect
of wealth or fame invested a considerable amount of time and effort into
their artistic activity. None of the rewards, which are used in the normal
working life to motivate employees (money, recognition) played a role.
There was also no external motivation. The artistic act was done for its own
sake. The motivation must be found in the characteristics of the activity
itself. Thus one speaks of intrinsic motivation.
In his further work Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi investigated, which inner
experience takes place when it is activated by intrinsic motivation and what
factors affect the intrinsic motivation. He made a study with 200 people, who
spend a lot of time with intrinisic motivated activities, such as playing chess,
rock climbing, dancing, basketball and composing. It showed that many
participants described their experience as a optimal state, where the person
is fully immersed in what he or she is doing, as being in a flow. Thus Mihaly
Csikszentmihalyi called it flow-experience. The flow experience can be
described in more detail with the following components:
- The self and the activity become a unit – One is fully concentrated upon the activity
– The thoughts move completely into the background
– Enhanced perception of your own body and the environment – There is a sense of control of the current situation
In his further exploration of the flow experience Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
found the following conditions for the flowexperience necessary:
- Fitting of the skill of the performer and the challenge of the task (not too
difficult – not too easy) – Clear task
– Fast feedback on the activity
I think a flow experience can also often be observed in Tai Chi Chuan. The
theory by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi now gives us hints how to reach
the flow experience easier in the practice of Tai Chi Chuan. Here are a few
suggestions:
- Define a clear task before the training, e.g. I try to relax the shoulders. – Choose forms or movements which fit to my current physical and mental
situation. – When practicing individual movements, I try to get a feeling for the
movements and correct them if necessary.
In addition to improving one‘s own practice you can also modify the
learning of Tai Chi Chuan in such a way that aflow experience can be
experienced. Conditions are here:
- The movements to be learned fit in their level of difficulty to the skills of
the student. – The depth of the correction fits to the skills of the student. – The correction of a movement must be clearly defined. – There must be a fast feedback on the exercise by the teacher or by one‘s
own feeling
The flow experience in the Tai Chi group is certainly something very special.
Is it not often like this: The slower the movements, the greater is the inner
experience and the faster the time runs. </b></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">O Tai
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Este
proliferam no Ocidente.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Seus
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Ao
tempo.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Esta
mentalidade influenciou a vida cultural, artística, a Medicina, a própria
As obras clássicas
dos mestres ensinam que se deve ‘vencer o movimento através da quietude’;
‘vencer a dureza através da suavidade’; ‘vencer o rápido através do lento’.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Pesquisas
Ele
apresenta o potencial de manter tanto a mente quanto o corpo… jovens, reduzindo
a pressão do sangue, regando as juntas, excitando a circulação, edificando

força, a flexibilidade e o equilíbrio.

corporal, a concentração mental e a respiração consciente. <o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

longo do exercício.

ANGEL FERNANDEZ DE CASTRO <o:p></o:p></span></i></b></div>

A teoria
Chuan.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Na
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Durante
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Esta
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Actualmente
As estimativas
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">O
eficiente. A prática destes movimentos suaves, ocasiona um impacto no<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Existem
incluem formas com espadas, leques, bastões, onde as pessoas procuram expressar
a beleza dos movimentos.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

started Tai Chi from 1974 after graduating from Medical School. I have
had osteoarthritis since my early teens. By the time I graduated my
arthritis was quite debilitating I felt I really had to do something for
myself. I remember in the village where I grew up in China, Tai Chi was
considered effective for arthritis. I decided to give it a try. I tried a couple
of teachers but did not feel comfortable with them. After a while I was
fortunate to learn my late father-in-law was an accomplished Tai Chi
practitioner and he had been my main teacher. Other great teachers have also
helped me enrich my Tai Chi experience.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

teaching Tai Chi and practicing medicine. I feel happy and healthy. My Tai Chi

<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Why
I Learned Tai Chi: Listening to the Inner Voice of Wisdom, Caroline Demoise,
Master Trainer, NC, USA<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">When
I was in my early 40’s I had this persistent, recurring thought “If you want to
be healthy when you are old, see a nutritionist now.”<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">One
evening at a meditation class, I overheard a woman talking about a
nutritionist, a shaman who had studied Chinese Medicine and decided to honour
that inner voice. At the first visit, he radically changed my life. Sugar,
salt, grains, alcohol and coffee were out. Fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, low
fat meats and Tai Chi were in.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Because
of these preventative practices, I have avoided several genetic health
challenges in my family. I know in my heart that if I had not made these life
altering changes in diet and embracing Tai Chi 25 years ago, I would not be the
vibrant, healthy person I am today at 66.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">I
began Tai Chi for health reasons, 6 or 7 years ago. I had osteoporosis. I was a
regular swimmer. Weight-lifting was out, I couldn’t walk any further than I
already did – I felt like doing less rather than more exercise because I had
contracted poliomyelitis in 1954.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">A
friend, Wendy, talked constantly about Tai Chi, clearly under the influence of
some acute Asian fever. She took me to an outdoors practice. I asked the
teacher, Elizabeth Halfnights, if I could join a regular class. She later
admitted that she thought it would be too hard for me, but then, so did I.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">I
joined all of her classes: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced. The following
year, I went to the St Vincent’s January workshop, and now I try to go every year,
as well as to the Sydney updates. I have found something that I can do, despite
a very fragile left side.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">This
year, with Wendy, I began to teach two classes a week, taking over from
Elizabeth. What a big difference there is between demonstrating and following!
We teach Long Yang and Tai Chi for Arthritis. Some of the more physically
challenged members of the class are interested when I demonstrate toned down
movements, in place of the more energetic kicks. Others are delighted when I
suggest that they experiment to see how certain movements will fit in with
their particular disability and disabilities are not only physical. We take in
Tai Chi ‘refugees’ whose past teachers have reprimanded them for their
weaknesses. We also teach strategies for remembering the routines, something we
have all struggled with.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">My
bone density has returned to normal. I can finally perform TAI CHI without a
prompting list of moves. We are helping others to experience the benefits of
Tai- chi. Thank you Dr Lam and the wonderful Tai Chi workshops.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

delaying the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, claim scientists. – The Telegraph –<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">A
new study has revealed how elderly people practising Tai Chi – an ancient
Chinese form of slow, meditative exercise – just three times a week can boost
brain volume and improve memory and thinking.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">As
the exercise increases mental activity, scientists believe it may be possible
to delay the onset of incurable Alzheimer’s in pensioners.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Dementia
and the gradual cognitive deterioration that precedes it is associated with
increasing shrinkage of the brain, as nerve cells and their connections are
gradually lost.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Previous
research has shown Tai Chi can help relieve stress, improve balance in the
elderly and stave of high blood pressure – helping those who suffer from heart
disease.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Although
scientists know brain volume can be increased in people who participate in
aerobic exercise, this is the first study to show a less physical form of
working out, like Tai Chi, can have the same results.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Researchers

who practiced Tai Chi three times a week to a group with no intervention.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Participants
also had lively discussions three times a week over the same time period, with
results showing a similar increase in brain volume and improvements on memory
and thinking as those exercising.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Findings
also revealed the group who did not participate in Tai Chi showed brain
shrinkage over the eight months – consistent with what generally has been
observed for elderly people in their 60s and 70s.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">The
research suggests forms of exercise like Tai Chi, that include an important
mental health exercise component, are associated with increased production of
brain growth factors like aerobic exercise.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Dr
James Mortimer, of the University of South Florida, said: “If this is shown,
then it would provide strong support to the concept of ‘use it or lose it’ and
encourage seniors to stay actively involved both intellectually and physically.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">“The
ability to reverse this trend with physical exercise and increased mental
activity implies that it may be possible to delay the onset of dementia in
older persons through interventions that have many physical and mental health
benefits.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">“Epidemiologic

<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Tai chi is often described
as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in
motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which
originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many
health problems. And you can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the
best of health.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">In
this low-impact, slow-motion exercise, you go without pausing through a series
of motions named for animal actions — for example, “white crane spreads its
wings” — or martial arts moves, such as “box both ears.” As you move, you
breathe deeply and naturally, focusing your attention — as in some kinds of
meditation — on your bodily sensations. Tai chi differs from other types of
exercise in several respects. The movements are usually circular and never
forced, the muscles are relaxed rather than tensed, the joints are not fully
extended or bent, and connective tissues are not stretched. Tai chi can be
easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to people confined to wheelchairs
or recovering from surgery.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">“A growing body of carefully
conducted research is building a compelling case for tai chi as an adjunct to
standard medical treatment for the prevention and rehabilitation of many
conditions commonly associated with age,” says Peter M. Wayne, assistant
professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of the Tai Chi and
Mind-Body Research Program at Harvard Medical School’s Osher Research Center.
An adjunct therapy is one that’s used together with primary medical treatments,
either to address a disease itself or its primary symptoms, or, more generally,
to improve a patient’s functioning and quality of life.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">The benefits of tai chi are
generally greatest if you begin before you develop a chronic illness or functional
limitations. Tai chi is very safe, and no fancy equipment is needed, so it’s
easy to get started. Here’s some advice for doing so:<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Don’t be intimidated by the
language. Names like Yang, Wu, and Cheng are given to various branches of
tai chi, in honor of people who devised the sets of movements called forms.
Certain programs emphasize the martial arts aspect of tai chi rather than its
potential for healing and stress reduction. In some forms, you learn long
sequences of movements, while others involve shorter series and more focus on
breathing and meditation. The name is less important than finding an approach
that matches your interests and needs.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Check with your
doctor . If you have a limiting musculoskeletal problem or medical
condition — or if you take medications that can make you dizzy or lightheaded —
check with your doctor before starting tai chi. Given its excellent safety
record, chances are that you’ll be encouraged to try it.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Consider observing and
taking a class. Taking a class may be the best way to learn tai chi.
Seeing a teacher in action, getting feedback, and experiencing the camaraderie
of a group are all pluses. Most teachers will let you observe the class first
to see if you feel comfortable with the approach and atmosphere. Instruction
can be individualized. Ask about classes at your local Y, senior center, or
community education center. The Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org;
800-283-7800, toll-free) can tell you whether its tai chi program, a
12-movement, easy-to-learn sequence, is offered in your area.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">If you’d rather learn at
home, you can buy or rent videos geared to your interests and fitness needs
(see “Selected resources”). Although there are some excellent tai chi books, it
can be difficult to appreciate the flow of movements from still photos
or illustrations.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Talk to the
instructor. There’s no standard training or licensing for tai chi
instructors, so you’ll need to rely on recommendations from friends or
clinicians and, of course, your own judgment. Look for an experienced teacher
who will accommodate individual health concerns or levels of coordination
and fitness.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Dress
comfortably. Choose loose-fitting clothes that don’t restrict your range
of motion. You can practice barefoot or in lightweight, comfortable, and flexible
shoes. Tai chi shoes are available, but ones you find in your closet will
probably work fine. You’ll need shoes that won’t slip and can provide enough
support to help you balance, but have soles thin enough to allow you to feel
the ground. Running shoes, designed to propel you forward, are
usually unsuitable.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Gauge your
progress. Most beginning programs and tai chi interventions tested in
medical research last at least 12 weeks, with instruction once or twice a week
and practice at home. By the end of that time, you should know whether you
enjoy tai chi, and you may already notice positive physical and
psychological changes.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Although tai chi is slow and
gentle and doesn’t leave you breathless, it addresses the key components of fitness
— muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and, to a lesser degree, aerobic
conditioning. Here’s some of the evidence:<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Muscle strength. Tai
chi can improve both lower-body strength and upper-body strength. When
practiced regularly, tai chi can be comparable to resistance training and
brisk walking.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">“Although you aren’t working
with weights or resistance bands, the unsupported arm exercise involved in tai
chi strengthens your upper body,” says internist Dr. Gloria Yeh, an assistant
professor at Harvard Medical School. “Tai chi strengthens both the lower and
upper extremities and also the core muscles of the back and abdomen.”<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Flexibility. Tai chi
can boost upper- and lower-body flexibility as well as strength.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Balance. Tai chi
improves balance and, according to some studies, reduces falls. Proprioception
— the ability to sense the position of one’s body in space — declines with age.
Tai chi helps train this sense, which is a function of sensory neurons in the
inner ear and stretch receptors in the muscles and ligaments. Tai chi also
improves muscle strength and flexibility, which makes it easier to recover from
a stumble. Fear of falling can make you more likely to fall; some studies have
found that tai chi training helps reduce that fear.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Aerobic conditioning. Depending
on the speed and size of the movements, tai chi can provide some aerobic
benefits. If your clinician advises a more intense cardio workout with a higher
heart rate than tai chi can offer, you may need something more aerobic
as well. <o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">1. Tai
chi gives you energy: Tai chi is related to the theories of <a href="http://shawellnessclinic.com/sha-spa/specialised-therapies" target="_blank">Traditional Chinese Medicine</a> which state that Qi, the
flow of energy that sustains living beings, moves through the body along
meridians, or pathways. When these pathways are blocked, illness and lethargy
ensues. The movements of tai chi are designed to prevent or relieve blockages
and allow Qi to flow freely through the body, leaving the practitioner feeling
energised, alert and focussed.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">2. It
calms the mind: The slow movements associated with tai chi are a carefully
formulated set of postures designed to strengthen the body and focus the mind.
Aided by deep breathing techniques, they allow the practitioner to focus on
achieving a meditative state, reducing mental and physical symptoms of stress
and anxiety.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">3. Regular
practice helps reduce <a href="http://blog.shawellnessclinic.com/health-and-beauty/how-to-control-hypertension/" target="_blank">blood pressure</a>: As both an aerobic exercise and a
meditative technique, Tai chi can lower blood pressure.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">4. And
can relieve headaches, backaches and even <a href="http://blog.shawellnessclinic.com/wellness-and-relax/insomnia-sleeping-problems-and-apnea-treatments/" target="_blank">insomnia</a>: By stimulating the movement of Qi around the
body, tai chi can reduce and remove energy blockages which cause aches, pains
and other maladies.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">5. The
postures strengthen your arms and legs: Despite the focus on slow, deliberate
movements, tai chi is an effective physical exercise – after all, it was
initially designed as a martial art. Movements flow into one another, keeping
the body in continuous motion and resulting in a strong core, arms and legs.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">6. The
physical practice can also unlock joints, preventing ailments such as
arthritis: The low impact postures of tai chi are gentle on the joints but
still increase mobility and range of motion in ankles, hips and knees.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">7. Tai
chi can reduce the risk of falls and injuries: As it improves strength, range
of motion and spatial orientation, tai chi reduces the risk of falls or other
injuries associated with frailty and loss of balance.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">8. Tai
chi improves the respiratory and cardiovascular systems: Although the heart
rate decreases during tai chi, blood flow is increased, strengthening the
cardiovascular system. In addition, the deep breathing techniques build up lung
capacity, increase the amount of oxygen inhaled into the body and expel more
waste gases and stale energy.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">So,
if you are looking for a holistic remedy to lethargy, stress or physical
ailments, then you might just have found your answer…<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Se
"inner circle" exercícios e discussões, todas as informações é

A citação exata eu

<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">O
Composto pelas palavras tai (grande), chi (energia) e chuan (universo), Tai Chi
Chuan significa “trabalhar a grande energia do universo”.
atletas.
quem tenha afinidade e simpatia.
No entanto,
“No
Retirado

<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Uma
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Embora

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">In
China, it is believed that tai chi can delay aging and prolong life, increase
flexibility, strengthen muscles and tendons, and aid in the treatment of heart
disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, digestive disorders, skin diseases, <a href="http://www.medicinenet.com/depression/article.htm">depression</a>, <a href="http://www.medicinenet.com/cancer/article.htm">cancer</a>, and many other
illnesses. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a good deal of scientific evidence
to support all of these claims. In a special study of tai chi called a
meta-analysis, where many studies on one subject are reviewed, the author
concludes that although there is some evidence to support the positive effects
of tai chi on health, <a href="http://www.medicinenet.com/exercise_and_activity/article.htm">fitness</a>,
and balance and falling, many of the studies are limited by small numbers of
subjects and wide variation in the type and duration of tai chi used. Bearing
thesse limitations in mind, here are some of the documented benefits.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Balance
and falling<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Most
of the research on tai chi has been done in older individuals in the area of
balance and fall prevention. This area of research is important because
fall-related injuries are the leading cause of death from injury and disabilities
among older adults. One of the most serious fall injuries is hip fracture;
one-half of all older adults hospitalized for hip fracture never regain their
former level of function. Because tai chi movements are slow and deliberate
with shifts of body weight from one leg to the other in coordination with upper
body movements (sometimes with one leg in the air), it challenges balance and
many have long assumed it helps improve balance and reduce fall frequency. This
assumption has been credited and strongly supported by some research.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">One
study compared men age 65 and older who had more than 10 years of experience
practicing tai chi and no involvement in any other regular sports and physical
activity, with similar-aged men who had not practiced tai chi or any other
physical activities (they were sedentary). It was found that the men who
studied tai chi performed better on tests of balance, flexibility, and
cardiovascular function. </span></b><b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In another study involving 22 men and women aged 22 to

it was found that eight weeks of tai chi training significantly improved
function on a standard balance test (called the Romberg test). http://www.medicinenet.com/tai_chi/page2.htm<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It
was impossible not to enjoy my first Tai Chi practice. Our guide and
instructor, Bud, led a hike through glorious red mountains outside St. George,
Utah, to a ridge with a breathtaking view. The sky was blue and still. He led
us through a series of gentle, flowing movements, and finished by playing
mystical sounds on a Native American flute. I felt refreshed and calm at the
end as we hiked back.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">While
many people are aware of yoga's powerful ability to heal 40 medical conditions,
most people aren't aware of Tai Chi's incredible powers. New research into this
ancient field has demonstrated the healing potential of this mind-body exercise
and shows that it offers an exciting path for therapy.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">If
you've walked by a park or community center where people were moving slowly and
gracefully, chances are you were watching a Tai Chi class. This healing art
originated in China over 2,000 years ago and uses continuous, circular, slow,
flowing movements combined with breath.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Tai
Chi originated from the martial arts while a closely related practice, Qi Gong,
began as a healing tool. Today both are thought to improve mind-body
coordination, breath and movement control, coordination, balance, and to reduce
stress. I will refer to them together as Tai Chi for the purposes of this
article.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Here
are some of the scientifically proven benefits of Tai Chi:<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">1.
Tai Chi is good for your heart.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Patients
with heart disease are encouraged to practice moderate exercise and Tai Chi is
an activity that not only fits the bill, but actually helps people get more
fit. A recent review found that patients who had been taught Tai Chi had a
lower blood pressure, lower blood glucose and cholesterol levels, and improved <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24348732" target="_blank">fitness and
exercise capacity</a> compared to patients who didn't learn Tai Chi.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Tai
Chi has also been incorporated into programs that help people recover from
heart attacks and <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24759952" target="_blank">cardiac surgery</a>. There is strong evidence that Tai Chi
improves artery health by increasing antioxidant enzyme action and <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22836707" target="_blank">lowering
oxidative stress</a>. One recent study found that it was even <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23936607" target="_blank">more
beneficial than a walking program</a>.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
